Fake news by omission from the Associated Press.
Just as bad as outright fake news, is fake news by omission. Here's an example of fake news by omission from the Associated Press.1
"BREAKING: Federal prosecutors charge Canadian man in stabbing of airport officer in Flint, Michigan."
The headline is true, but omits a number of important facts. They fail to mention that the Canadian man, Amor Ftouhi, shouted 'Allahu akbar' before stabbing airport police lieutenant Jeff Neville with a large knife.2
Similarly, very fake news CNN also omitted to mention that Amor Ftouhi shouted 'Allahu akbar', instead reporting that he said 'something in Arabic'.3
To be fair to very fake news CNN, three hours later they did tweet an updated tweet, once people had called them out for suppressing the full truth.4
Notice, however, that CNN's original tweet received 2,900 retweets, whereas the updated tweet received only 165 retweets. Once again the statistics show that CNN viewers aren't interested in sharing the truth if it doesn't fit their narrative.5
However, despite the noticeable lack of interest in the full truth from CNN's viewers, at least on this occasion CNN did eventually manage to tweet the fact that the suspect shouted 'Allahu akbar'.
That is how low the Associated Press has sunk. To the AP's shame, on this occasion even very fake news CNN eventually provided a more accurate account of the full story than the Associated Press.
This PC culture which is preventing journalists from doing their jobs properly needs to be destroyed. It's time to return to just telling the truth. The full truth. Not omitting key facts from the story like the Associated Press did. Not selectively picking and choosing a limited number of details in order to keep the public in the dark as to the full story. Fake news by omission needs to end.
