The number of deaths from heroin sky-rocketed under Obama and his failed policies.
According to statistics from the National Institute on Drug Abuse, between 2010 and 2015 the number of annual deaths from heroin sky-rocketed.
During 2010, Obama's first full year as president, the number of deaths from heroin was 3,036. By 2015, the most recent year for which statistics are available, this figure had soared to 12,989.
The official figures1 provide a breakdown by the two genders, as follows:
Between 2010 and 2015, male deaths from heroin increased from 2,452 to 9,881.
Between 2010 and 2015, female deaths from heroin increased from 584 to 3,108.
That's a multiplier of x4.03 for male deaths, and a multiplier of x5.32 for female deaths
As reported by Time2 in an article entitled 'How Obamacare Is Fueling America's Opioid Epidemic', this increase in heroin deaths was no coincidence.
To briefly sum up one of the points raised by the Time article, under Obamacare, $1.5 billion in Medicare payments is allocated to hospitals based in part on patient-satisfaction surveys. These surveys ask patients, “During this hospital stay, did the hospital staff do everything they could to help you with your pain?” And, “How often was your pain well controlled?”
Dr. Nick Sawyer of the UC Davis Department of Emergency Medicine summed it up:
“The government is telling us we need to make sure a patient’s pain is under control. It’s hard to make them happy without a narcotic. This policy is leading to ongoing opioid abuse.”
The figures suggest Dr Sawyer is correct. As illustrated by the graph above, under Obamacare the annual number of heroin deaths soared to record levels.
But the increase in heroin deaths isn't entirely due to the failings of Obamacare. Additionally, major drug traffickers and armed career criminals were released during Obama's presidency. And perhaps worst of all, US drug control programs in Mexico, Colombia and Afghanistan were cut or halted altogether by Obama's government.3 In some cases, decades of work had been invested in establishing these drug control programs, only for Obama to undo all that previous work.
Sometimes it's easy to forget that behind the figures are people. Under Obama, and as a result of his failed policies, the number of people who died due to heroin deaths more than quadrupled.

I can tell you from experience, as my job is a position where I am aware of literally every suspicious death in my county...
ReplyDeleteWe dealt with WAY more heroin ODs than you can imagine. A lot more than our stats indicate... We noticed a few more than usual in 2012, sometime in 2013 it was 'okay, this is a problem,' by the end of 2013 through 2016 it was like, 'okay, hopefully get through the day without one, but we'll probably see 3 or 4.' And then you get days where a "bad batch" comes through, and a dozen people die in one day...
Fingers crossed as I type this - but for the first time in a long time, it just kinda snuck up on us, it's winding down some. There is still work to be done, but we've actually had a periods of weeks without one recently. Last summer, you were counting the hours between OD's.
Wow. What do you attribute this wonderful change to? I pray for the healing of all hooked on drugs.
DeleteThe British destabilized China in the late 1800's with opium. Let me be clear, terrorist funding Barack 'Mr. IFIFIF' Obama knew exactly what he was doing.
ReplyDeleteFailed? I'd say they accomplished exactly what Obama intended.
ReplyDeleteWhat if the result was the actual INTENT, and NOT an "unintended consequence"? Either Obama is so stupid as to not foresee that, or he designed the policy for exactly that result?
