Wikileaks poll: US secret services more likely to influence French election than Russia, UK or Germany.
Wikileaks recently held a poll on twitter which asked, "Which state is most likely to use its secret services to influence the course of the 2017 French presidential election?"
Over 42,000 people voted, with the majority of voters choosing the United States' secret services as the most likely to interfere in the French election.
So while the Russia hysteria may be working on the 'unaware and compliant citizenry'1, those who research and verify their news stories are not so easily fooled.
Perhaps twitter users based their vote on the fact that, according to a database by political scientist Dov Levin2 of Carnegie Mellon University, the US interfered in foreign elections 81 times between 1946 and 2000. It should also be noted that the total of 81 doesn’t include subsequent military coups and regime change attempts by the US to get rid of winning candidates they didn't like.
Or perhaps twitter users based their vote on the documents released by Wikileaks back in February, which revealed that the CIA under Obama interfered in the 2012 French election.3
Of course the reference to 'secret services' makes it clear that the twitter poll is referring to covert interference, but Obama has made something of a habit of interfering quite openly in foreign elections, most notably the Brexit referendum, and again more recently by agreeing to work together with Emmanuel Macron in the French election.4
Based on Obama's habit of foreign election interference, it was reassuring to hear President Trump declare in his address to Congress back in February, "My job is not to represent the world. My job is to represent the United States of America." It's sad that a statement like this even had to be made, but given the track record of Obama and previous presidents, it was a point well worth clarifying.
If President Trump can drain the swamp and purge the security services of those loyal to globalist interests, rather than the interests of America, hopefully similar twitter polls in future will produce a different result.
