Red Pilled World

Where did the term 'fake news' come from?

The term 'fake news' was first pushed by the mainstream media when the most damaging Podesta Wikileaks were being released in early November. Here's a link to Google trends to verify this:
Google trends for the term 'fake news'

The term 'fake news' was first pushed when evidence of Hillary Clinton's corruption
was being exposed by the Podesta emails.

The timing suggests the term 'fake news' may have been introduced by elements of the biased MSM as an anticipatory defense measure to try to delegitimize the evidence of Hillary's corruption that was being exposed by the Podesta emails.

It very quickly backfired on them, however, because the term 'fake news' could be used against the MSM every time they posted a fake or misleading story, which they do quite often.

In late January it looks like the MSM realized the term 'fake news' was exposing them to ridicule every time they pushed a false narrative, and they began to drop the term 'fake news' as they obviously realized it was backfiring on them.

However, once the genie is let out of the bottle, it can't be put back in. The term 'fake news' is now in the public consciousness, and it will be used to attack the biased MSM every time they push a false narrative, report misleading news, or on occasion report outright fake news.
