Reebok exposed as hypocrites with a long history of disrespecting women.
Reebok's marketing department recently decided to jump on the virtue signaling bandwagon when they claimed it was inappropriate for President Trump to pay a compliment to Macron's wife Brigitte Macron regarding her appearance.
So let's examine Reebok's record and see if they are qualified to preach to us on the appropriate way to treat women with respect. Let's start with this Reebok advert which says:
"Cheat on your girlfriend, not on your workout."1
An advert from Reebok encouraging their customers to cheat on their girlfriends. And yet Reebok feel qualified to tell us of the appropriate way to treat women with respect!?
Reebok recently tweeted a flowchart lecturing us that it is never appropriate to compliment a women on her appearance. So let's take a look at Reebok's history on twitter...2
"Lookin' good ladies!"
Hmm, I have to admit I'm kind of getting mixed messages here. Is it okay to compliment a women's appearance or not, Reebok?
But when it comes to Reebok's hypocrisy, this is just the tip of the iceberg. Reebok have a long history of promoting their products with adverts which objectify women. The advert below, which we have censored, is just one such example...
This is just one of a long list of adverts from Reebok objectifying women. Many more examples can be found by searching the #BoycottReebok hashtag on twitter.
In fact the whole tone of Reebok's EasyTone campaign was based on the objectification of women. No mention of health or fitness benefits. The entire campaign was built on the message of 'objectify yourself'.
And yet, incredibly, Reebok somehow feel qualified to lecture us on the appropriate way to treat women with respect!?
What next?
North Korea lecturing us on the importance of freedom of speech?
Saudi Arabia lecturing us on women's rights?
Obama lecturing us on the immorality of spying on political opponents?
Here's some obvious advice for the clueless marketing departments of increasingly more and more brands nowadays...
Stay out of politics! Alienating half of your potential audience is never a wise marketing strategy.
For the record, Reebok is owned by Adidas.
