Russian Foreign Ministry plays April Fools' Day joke, offering election hacking.
The award for April Fool's Day prank of the year has to go to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs who posted a hilarious April Fool's prank on their facebook page mocking the anti-Russia hysteria pushed by much of the biased Western mainstream media.
The Russian Foreign Ministry announced:
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia has developed a pilot audio recording of the answering machine for Russian diplomatic missions abroad."
This is the transcript of the answering machine message:
"You have reached the Russian embassy. Your call is very important to us.
To arrange a call from a Russian diplomat to your political opponents, press 1.
To use the services of Russian hackers, press 2.
To request election interference press 3 and wait until the next election campaign."
They add:
"Please note that all calls are recorded for quality improvement and training purposes."
The Associated Press confirmed with a duty officer from the Russian Foreign Ministry that this was an official joke. My initial reaction to hearing this was, "Seriously? They had to check?"
However, given the increasing trend by many mainstream news organizations to push false narratives and unsubstantiated claims while protecting themselves by using vague ambiguous phrasing such as 'unnamed sources', 'possibly believed to', and 'may have', I suppose it's good to see that at least the Associated Press still take journalism seriously and verify their stories.
The post was liked by facebook users from all around the world, with many American facebook users seeing the funny side. Here are some of the replies to the prank:
"Nicely done! What made this even funnier was the hysterical reaction of CNN and other mainstream media outlets in America."
"I'm so happy our Russian diplomatic friends are treating the insanity in Washington with such a wonderful sense of humor. It feels so good to laugh so much!"
"Outstanding! We need this sense of humor in the USA over all this fake news about Russia and the elections. OK, now waiting to be investigated for posting this."
"I don't understand why CNN is mad about this. The Russians do this once a year but CNN does it every day, all day long. I guess CNN doesn't like the competition and prefers to have a monopoly on deception."
"Typical CNN. No sense of humor at all! I personally think it's hilarious :)"
"CNN is so invested in fake news and Russia phobia they get easily confused."
"Hysterical! Best April's Fool joke EVER!!! Thank you, Russia, for the LOL!"
"Thank you for having the sense of humor many of those in my government should have."
It was nice to see so many replies from Western facebook users who were pleased to see CNN and other biased media outlets being mocked for their efforts to damage America's relations with Russia.
