Lifelong Denver Broncos fan writes letter to John Elway.
In light of the NFL protests on Sunday, this is a letter sent by a Denver Broncos fan to Denver Broncos President John Elway:
"Dear Mr Elway
First and foremost, thank you for taking the time to read my letter. please accept this letter as my formal resignation as a life-long fan of the Denver Broncos. For reference, when I say you in this letter I am implying, Players, Coaches, and the NFL as a whole. Let me explain why I have made this decision:
My first memories in life are filled with birthday parties in Broncos flair, dressing as you personally for Halloween and playing the Superbowl countless times in my backyard throwing the winning pass in your jersey. After 9-11 I enlisted into the U.S. Army and fought in Operation Enduring Freedom V and VI along with humanitarian aid missions in Pakistan. My fellow soldiers are my family. Their bravery and continued sacrifice is patriotism represented at its finest. My brother was shot while in service to the Flag of the United States, and the U.S. Constitution.
It is heartbreaking to see the team I love(d) disrespect this country that is giving so much to you, its Veterans, and their families who have sacrificed so much and some who sacrificed all. Many don't actually know what my national anthem and my sacred flag stand for. Let me enlighten you and the team:
The last line is what confuses me most about the actions of the NFL players and their back office support/neglect to action. They/you are defying exactly what they are trying to state is their reason for disrespect to this country and its veterans who live by a principle of "I detest what you write, but I would give my life to make it possible for you to continue to write." -Voltaire paraphrased by Evelyn Beatrice Hall.
The manner in which you carry yourself is just as important as your stats. A perfect example of this Peyton Manning. Can you honestly say he would support this disrespect? I believe that there is cause to have a debate for injustice and racism, though disrespecting a symbol that represents 600,000 men that died to end slavery is a mock to that cause. I truly believe that if you wanted to make a stand and ignite people you should take a Sunday off from football and donate your time to organizations and charity that are fighting these injustices and stand together for that.
I live in College Station Texas, a place that held Von Miller on a pedestal, but has now demoted to burning of his jersey and complete loss of support. At first I did want to pile up my Broncos gear and video me burning it to the anthem, etc ... 2 reasons I did not do that:
1. I don't want to be perceived as a racist, as I support free speech and have served to defend it and the bill of rights.
2. Those clothes at this time of need for many victims of hurricanes and earthquakes can be put to better use than my display of anger.
People looked up to you and admired you. As I am writing this, people have now been inspired by your actions enough to be seen kneeling out of disrespect at a sacred place known as The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, a mortifying and disgusting action! It's a shame this is acceptable in the NFL, but illegal for players to kneel on the field to pray.
I can no longer in good conscience provide any support, financially or personally to the Denver Broncos or the NFL. Thank you for the many years of fun and excitement that we had. I hope one day that you all will look back with regret and sorrow for the utter disrespect you have shown and try to change this country for the good, instead of stomping on the best representation of humanity at its finest.
With utmost regret and sorrow.
Veteran of the U.S. Army and Proud Citizen of these Free United States."

"The colors of the pales (the vertical stripes) are those used in the flag of the United States; White signifies purity and innocence, Red, hardiness and valor, and Blue, the color of the Chief (the broad band above the stripes) signifies vigilance, perseverance and justice."
The American flag is the sacred emblem of our country. It symbolizes your birthright, your heritage of liberty purchased with blood and sorrow of a patriot. The flag is a living symbol of my nation's law; the Constitution of the United States and the Bill of Rights. It represents these eternal principles; liberty, justice and humanity.
The flag embodies American freedom: freedom of speech, religion, assembly, the press, and the sanctity of the home.
The last line is what confuses me most about the actions of the NFL players and their back office support/neglect to action.
